What are some of the things that you praise?
READ TOGETHER
Find the book of Psalms in your Bible and look at the last five chapters – Psalm 146-150. The last five psalms are all about praising God. And they all sound something like this:
Psalm 146:1-2. Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD, O my soul!
2 I will praise the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
What is praise? Praise is talking about how great, or awesome, or fun something is. Praise is telling everyone how much you love someone or something. What are some of the things that you praise?
Why does the book of Psalms end with all this praise? Because praise is what everything we do and say is supposed to lead to. You were made by God to praise him. God created us to talk about his greatness. God made you and me so that we would worship him, and sing about him, and let others know how awesome and good he is.
Think about how everything we do that is good, or fun, or anything that makes us happy ends up as praise. Praise is the last and greatest thing we do after we do anything else that is awesome. At the end of great game what do you do? You praise each other. At the end of a great movie what do you do? You talk about how cool it was. After a great concert what do you do? You talk about how great it was with everyone else who went. After you do something really cool for the first time, what do you do? You say “hey everyone, watch what I can do,” hoping that they’ll praise you. “Great job!” “Wow, that was so cool. Do it again.”
You see, praising God is the greatest thing any of us will ever do. And it should be what we want to do the most. After anything awesome, or fun, or exciting, or good, we should want to praise God and tell others how it was God that let us do that awesome thing.
So what can you praise God for right now? What awesome thing have you done or seen lately that reminds you of how awesome God is? What has God done for you that you can praise him for today?
Mostly we can praise God for Jesus. We can praise God that he loves us so much that he sent his Son to die for us on the cross, and forgive us, and love and take care of us forever. And now, because of Jesus, every good thing in this world will last forever and we can enjoy it forever, and we can praise God forever. Why? Because we will live forever with God in perfect happiness.
Because of Jesus God is worthy of all our praise.
With Jesus we can praise and enjoy God together forever.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Make a list of all the thing you want to praise god for today. Post your list and add to it as you go. Take time each week to praise God, thanking him for Jesus and every other good thing.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
I will praise you forever because you have saved me forever.
