THINK TOGETHER
Who do you trust? Is there anyone that you don’t trust?
READ TOGETHER
Sometimes people think that the Bible is a book about how to be good. Or that it is a big list of rules that God wants us to obey. But that is not the real purpose of the Bible. God gave us the Bible, with all of its stories, and God gave us the book of Proverbs to teach us one main thing – we can and must trust God with all our heart.
That is why one of the most loved and most important proverbs in the Bible is this one:
Proverbs 3:5-6. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Learning to trust God is the most important thing you can ever learn as you grow up. But it is also the hardest things to learn. Why? Because sometimes the world around us can be very confusing and even very scary. And many times we just don’t understand why God does what he does or why he allows what he allows.
That is why, as we grow up, we often try to control our own lives more and more (just ask your mom or dad about this). Right now your mom and dad, or grandparents, or teachers control much of your life. They tell you what to do. And that is a good thing, because they love you and know what is best for you. And learning to trust the grown-ups that God has put in your life is important because it teaches you how to trust God. And one day, when you get older, you will want to control your own life and make your own choices. But hopefully you will have learned the lesson that God wanted you to learn – Trust God with all your heart because you are not in control of your life, he is. And he is good.
But how do we know that we can always trust God? How do we know that he is always good? Because of Jesus. If God would send his Son, Jesus, to earth to die for us, if he would do the hardest thing ever, and at the same time the kindest thing ever, die on the cross for us, can we trust that God is always going to do what is best for us?
YES!
Proverbs 3:5-6 says that when we trust God he gives us a “straight path” to him. Before he died on the cross, Jesus said that he IS our straight path to God. He said that if we trust in him to take away our sin, then nothing can get in the way of us going to heaven to be with God forever. Nothing. Have you trusted in Jesus to take away your sin? Have you trusted that Jesus is the “straight path” to God?
Because of Jesus we are on God’s straight path to heaven.
With Jesus we can trust God to always do what is best for us.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Here’s a good song about trusting Jesus – it even has some choreography that you can dance along with.
And/Or
Watch this scene from Aladdin together. Why did Jasmine need to trust Aladdin? Do you think she was smart to trust him? How did trusting Aladdin work out? Did he make a way for her to be saved? How does God make a way for us to be saved?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
Thank you for inviting me to go to heaven to be with you forever. Help me trust you every day between now and then.
Amen.
