THINK TOGETHER
Have you ever been to a wedding? Did you like it?
READ TOGETHER
Sometimes when a man and a woman fall in love they will get married. And when they get married they will stand up in front of God and their church and they will declare their love for each other. Sometimes they will say nice things to each other, and make promises to each other called vows. And often they will give each other a ring to “seal” their love.
In Song of Solomon a wife and a husband are madly in love with each other. And because they are in love they decide to get married. And we get to listen in on their wedding. Listen to what the wife said to her husband about their love:
Song of Songs 8:6.
6 Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as a seal upon your arm,
for love is strong as death,
jealousy is fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
the very flame of the Lord.
This wife is asking her husband to love her forever – “set me as a seal upon your heart.” And this wife and husband are promising to love each other forever – “nothing can quench my love for you.”
But this love story is meant to be about more than just a woman and a man who fell in love and got married. It’s supposed to be a picture of Jesus’ love for us and our love for him. So just like this wife asks her husband to love her forever, we can ask Jesus to love us forever. We can ask Jesus to be our friend and savior forever, no matter what.
And you know what? Jesus will always say yes. He will always love us when we ask because he is already always loving us.
But how do I know that Jesus will love me no matter what?
Because Jesus’ love for you was “stronger than death,” and his “jealousy” for you was “fiercer than the grave.” Jesus was so in love with us that he rose from the dead in order to save us and bring us home to himself.
Because of Jesus we will live forever in his love.
With Jesus you never have to wonder if God loves you.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
If you are married, look at some of your wedding photos together. If you are married do you remember your wedding vows? Can you show them to your children? If you’re not married do a google search of weddings and wedding vows so your children can see some pictures/examples.
Talk about how Jesus has vowed to love us forever and he will never break his promise to us.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
Will you please love me no matter what? I know that you will because you died and rose again for me.
Amen.
