TLIC Family. Day 88. March 29. Good news.

THINK TOGETHER

Can you think of anything good that has happened today or will happen today? Take a minute and tell each other some good news.

READ TOGETHER

One day when Jesus was on earth, he went to church (they called it synagogue where Jesus was from), he walked up to the front of the room, took the scroll of Isaiah (they read from scrolls not books) and he read these verses from Isaiah 61:

Isaiah 61:1-2. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
    because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
    he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
    and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
    and the day of vengeance of our God;
    to comfort all who mourn;
to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
    to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
    the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
    the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.

Then he calmly rolled the scroll back up and told everyone that this prophecy was about him. Jesus said that he IS God’s good news for all mankind.

Every single person needs the good news of Jesus. Not the good ideas of Jesus. And not the good behavior of Jesus. We need the good news of Jesus. What’s the difference? I’m glad you asked. The good news of Jesus is the truth of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

You see we don’t need Jesus to tell us how to be good. And we don’t even need Jesus to show us how to be good. We need Jesus to be good FOR us. In our place. And that is the good news! Jesus was perfect for us. And then, Jesus died for our sins too. He did all the good things we could never do and he did the worst thing ever, the thing we all deserve to do – die for our sins.

But Jesus did it all.

And that’s the best news ever.

Do you love the good news of Jesus? Some people don’t. Did you notice who Isaiah said the good news is for? The poor. The brokenhearted. The captives. The sad. The good news is for all the people who know that they have sinned and hurt God. The good news is for all the people who know that they are captive to their sinful heart.

If you don’t think that you are a sinner, then you probably don’t think that you need a savior.

Are you a sinner?

Are you poor without Jesus?

Are you sad without Jesus?

If you answered YES, then you will love the good news of Jesus.

Do you believe the good news? That Jesus was perfect for you. That he died for you? That he loves you and wants to save you and take you to heaven to be with him and everyone else who loves God?

Me too.

Because of Jesus we can trust in the good news of his life and death for us.

With Jesus we can share the good news with others, letting them know that Jesus loves them too.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Talk about ways that your family can share the good news with others – inviting someone to church, or building a friendship with others. Also talk about who might be open to hearing the good news of Jesus – a friend, classmate, neighbor, etc.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

You are God’s best news ever. Thank you for doing everything God required for me on the cross.

Amen.
