TLIC Family. Day 118. April 28: Behold the Lamb of God.

THINK TOGETHER

If you saw Jesus walking toward you what would you say?

READ TOGETHER

Did you know that Jesus had a cousin? His name was John. Sometimes we call him John the Baptist because he preached about repenting from sin and baptized people in the Jordan River. John also preached about the coming Messiah, God’s hero, who would save his people. John understood that his cousin, Jesus, was God’s Messiah.

One day when John was out preaching to people and baptizing people, he saw Jesus walking toward him. Listen to what John said when he saw Jesus coming:

John 1:29. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

What did you say you would say if you saw Jesus walking toward you?

Would you call him a lamb? Would you yell out, “Here comes God’s Lamb!”

John did.

But why would John call Jesus a lamb?

All throughout the Old Testament lambs were used as sacrifices for sin weren’t they? At the Passover, when the Israelites escaped from Egypt, they had to first put the blood of the lamb on their doorposts in order to escape the punishment of God for sin. Before they could be saved BY God from Egypt, they had to be saved FROM God by God.

God is perfect love isn’t he? And because God is perfect love he can’t and won’t tolerate sin, because sin is unloving and cruel. God is righteous too, isn’t he? That means he always makes everything right and good. Sin goes against God’s righteousness, his goodness. Because we are born as sinners we are born as God’s enemies. We are born deserving to be punished by God.

Have you sinned today? Have you been unloving or unkind in any way? Have you been bad instead of good in some way? If you have, then you need a lamb. You need THE LAMB of God that takes away the sin of the world. You need a sacrifice for your sin.

And that is what Jesus is! Jesus is the lamb that takes away our sin by being punished for our sin in our place. Jesus died on the cross as God’s enemy so that we would never have to be God’s enemy again. When we trust in Jesus all our sins are taken away forever and ever. Now we can always look at Jesus for his love and kindness, and we can always be sure that God is our friend and our father.

Because of Jesus we can know that our sins have been taken away.

With Jesus we can keep looking to Jesus knowing we are forgiven and loved forever.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Listen to this beautiful song together.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

You are my lamb from God that took away my sins. Help me to always look at you when I sin knowing that I am forgiven and loved no matter what I do.

Amen.
