THINK TOGETHER
Who do you share with? What things do you share with them?
READ TOGETHER
The Apostle Paul was the greatest missionary who ever lived. Do you know what a missionary does? (They share the good news of Jesus with others – sometimes in other parts of the world) Can you name a current day missionary that you church helps?
Paul went all over the world sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. He would explain the Old Testament stories to them and show how they all pointed to Jesus. Or, if the people didn’t know about the Old Testament he would use something they did know about in order to teach them about God and then about Jesus. Paul also started churches in many of the cities he visited and then he wrote letters to those churches, and many of those letters are in our Bible today.
One of those letters is 1 Thessalonians. Can you find 1 Thessalonians in a Bible?
Paul loved the people of Thessalonica (that’s the name of the city) very much. Listen to how he describes his love for them here in chapter 2 of 1 Thessalonians:
1 Thessalonians 2:8. So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.
Paul says that he is “affectionately desirous” of them, and that he wanted to “share his own self” with them. These are ways of saying that he really, really, cared about them and was a true friend to them. He didn’t want to only talk to them about Jesus, he wanted to be nice to them like Jesus would be if he was there.
And that is what being a Christian is all about. A Christian is a sharer. Why? Because God is a sharer. The best sharer ever. And Jesus is a sharer. He shares his life with us. And now we can be sharers too. We can share the good news of Jesus, and we can share our own hearts with others, loving them life Jesus does.
Because of Jesus God has shared the good news and his love with us.
With Jesus we can share the good news of Jesus and the love of Jesus.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Share something with someone. Make sharing a part of your family’s normal rhythm. Talk together about how sharing our things can also lead to sharing the good news of Jesus.
And here’s a good song about sharing Jesus with others.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
You are best sharer ever. Help me to share your good news and my own things in order to love others like you do.
Amen.
