THINK TOGETHER
How would your body be different if it were perfect?
READ TOGETHER
The greatest gift Jesus gives us is eternal life. But what makes eternal life so awesome is that we will be totally changed by Jesus as we enter our eternal life.
Yes, when we trust in Jesus we will live forever.
No, we will not live forever exactly like we are right now. We will be better than we are now. We will have a whole new body and a whole new soul from Jesus. Listen to how the Apostle Paul explains it to the Corinthians here:
1 Corinthians 15:51-53. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
Paul says we won’t all sleep – that means we won’t stay dead after we die. But we will all be changed. How will we be changed? Our mortal body will be changed into an immortal, perfect, body.
How would your body be different if it were perfect? How did you answer that question above?
When Jesus rose from the dead he had his same body, except now his body was perfect. Jesus wasn’t a ghost after he rose from the dead. You could touch him, and hug him, and he ate food with the disciples. But his body was way cooler. It could disappear and walk through walls.
And most important his new body would never get sick, or hurt, or die ever again. And Paul says that we too will be “raised imperishable,” just like Jesus was!
Have you ever been sick or hurt? Is there a sickness or pain that you are living with every day? Jesus promises us that one day all hurts, all sicknesses, all diseases, and all death will go away forever. And “we will all be changed.” This is the great hope that we can live within every single day. We can trust Jesus through all our sicknesses, and pains, because we know that one day they will all go away.
Because of Jesus we will rise from the dead one day and be perfect.
With Jesus we can trust that even when we are sick or hurting it won’t last forever.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Draw chalk outlines of your bodies together. Talk about how our bodies are a gift from God, but still imperfect. How will your body be different when it is perfect?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
You rose from the dead and have a perfect body. One day I will too. Thank you for this hope.
Amen.
