TLIC Family. Day 219. August 7: A new creation.

THINK TOGETHER

Have you gotten something new recently? What was it?

READ TOGETHER

One of the greatest promises of God is that he will make everything new. Eternity in heaven is not living forever on an earth that keeps getting worse and worse. It is not living forever in a body that keeps getting older and older and sicker and sicker. Nope. God will make the earth new again and he will make us new again.

The Bible calls it the New Creation.

Listen to what Paul calls us here in 2 Corinthians 5:

2 Corinthians 5:17. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Are you “in Christ?” Have you trusted in Jesus to save you? If you have then you are part of God’s new creation. “The old has gone and the new has come.”

I know this can be a bit confusing. It sure doesn’t look like the old is gone – we are still getting older and older aren’t we? And it sure doesn’t look like the new has come either. We are still getting sick and hurt sometimes. We still sin. We still get scared and worry. On the outside we sure seem to be the same person we were before we knew Jesus.

But what about on the inside? On the inside we are a whole new person. We are full of God’s great love for us. We have a brand new heart that loves God and loves other people too. And we are forgiven of our sins and set free from the fear of being punished for our sin. We are new!

And one day we will have a new outside to match the new inside that God has already given us. Not only will our spirit be new, but our body will be too. And we will live with God on a new earth. And God “will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

Because of Jesus we are God’s new creation.

With Jesus we can begin to act like we are brand new even now.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

What is something in your house that is brand new or at least pretty new? Were you excited to get this new thing? Talk about why new things excite us? Ask your kids what they think it will be like to be eternally NEW.

And this is a fun video/song to help you learn 2 Corinthians 5:17.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

You have made me new! I can’t wait to live with you forever in a world that never breaks and never gets old.

Amen.
