THINK TOGETHER
Have you ever stood in a long line waiting for something great? What was it?
READ TOGETHER
When my son was a little boy we lost him in one of those big warehouse stores. He was standing next to us one second but then in the next second he was gone. As I went looking for him in the store I was hoping and praying that he would stand still. He did and I found him.
In Philippians 4, Paul tells the Christians to stand still too:
Philippians 4:1. Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.
Yesterday we read from Philippians 3 where Paul told us to “press on.” Keep moving toward Jesus. Don’t give up on trusting God.
Today Paul tells us to “stand firm” or stand still.
But how can we press on and stand still at the same time?
Jesus wants us to stand still in his love. He wants us to always trust him and his goodness. He wants us to know that no matter what he will always be for us and never, ever against us.
Why can we stand firm in Jesus. Let’s look at what Paul said just before he tells us to stand firm:
Philippians 3:20-21. 20 Our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
We can stand in the power of God because one day Jesus will return for us and take us to live with him forever. And Jesus will make everything perfect again, even our “lowly body” will be made into a “glorious body.” This amazing truth is what gives us the courage to simply stand firm, trusting Jesus through our whole life.
And when we STAND in the power of God’s love for us in Jesus, then we can PRESS ON. Then we can grow in our love for Jesus and for others too. From standing still in Jesus’ grace we can run around in Jesus’ grace sharing him with others as we go.
Because of Jesus we will live with God forever in heaven and everything will be perfect.
With Jesus we can stand patiently waiting for God!
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Maybe see if the people in your family can sit still and wait for something like Audrey did here:
Remember we are all standing firm until the best gift ever, Jesus, returns for us. What temptations might make us want to stop trusting and loving Jesus?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
I want to stand firm always trusting you no matter what, because you love me no matter what.
Amen.
