TLIC Family. Day 312. November 8: He saved us.

Have you ever had to be rescued or saved from something?

When I was little, before I knew how to swim, I was pushed into the deep end of a pool. As I sank to the bottom, I knew that I was going to die. Why? Because I had no idea how to save myself.

But then somebody jumped into the pool and pulled me up and I was alive!

He saved me.

I think his name was Paul.

The Bible says that all of us are like a drowning person who can’t save ourselves. God has to save us. Listen to how the Apostle Paul explains our salvation to Pastor Titus here:

Titus 3:3-6. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

Why did we need to be saved?

Because we were born as foolish, disobedient, lost, slaves who were jealous and hateful. Yikes. Does that sound like you? Be honest.

Who saved us?

God saved us.

Why did he save us?

Because of his great mercy, and love, and goodness, and kindness. Remember, not because of our goodness. We didn’t have any. We were drowning and unable to save ourselves.

How did he save us?

First by the appearing of Jesus our Savior. Jesus came to us. He jumped into the pool to save us. He lived and died for our sins, taking our place on the cross.

And second, he saved us by giving us the Holy Spirit’s regeneration. Regeneration means we are made alive. Not only were we drowning spiritually, but we were dead spiritually. But the Holy Spirit brought us back to life. He “regenerated” us. He “renewed” us. How? Through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Now we are alive! Now we can stop being foolish and disobedient slaves to sin and stop being jealous, mean, and hateful. And we can start being loved by God and loving like God.

Because of Jesus we are saved!

With Jesus we can be kind and loving instead of jealous and hateful.

Watch this scene from the end of “The Incredibles 2” together. Who needed saving? Could they save themselves? What happened to their enemy? Who are you in this scene?

You jumped in to save me. You rescued me when I could never rescue myself. Thank you for your great mercy and kindness.
