THINK TOGETHER
Whose child are you? What makes you their child?
READ TOGETHER
The Apostle John wants us to know deep in our hearts that God loves us the same way a good dad loves their child. Listen to what he says to the readers of his first letter:
1 John 3:1-2. See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
This is the most important thing we need to know as Christians – that God is our father, we are his children, and that he loves us more than anything. We aren’t just called children of God; we ARE the children of God. RIGHT NOW. Not just some day in Heaven, but in this moment here on Earth. You are his son or his daughter. You are the prince or princess of the universe alongside Jesus.
This means that we never have to figure out who we are.
We never have to wonder if we are loved by God.
We never have to earn God’s acceptance.
We never have to ask if what God allows I good for us or bad for us (hint: it’s always good).
We never have to ask if God is with us today.
We never have to worry about paying God back for all his good gifts.
We never have to worry about who we will turn into some day – we will be like Jesus!
No matter what we are God’s children. And no matter what Jesus will come to bring us home to our Dad. And we will be like God. We will love like God. Share like God. Care like God. And live like God forever and ever. Now that is wonderful love.
Because of Jesus we ARE the children of God.
With Jesus we can know we are always loved as God’s child.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Here’s a beautiful song you can listen to together about God’s love for us.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
You have shared the love of the Father with us. Help me to trust our Dad and share his love with others.
Amen.
