THINK TOGETHER
Have you ever watched a baby growing? (Talk about how we can’t see a baby growing but over time we will see the growth of the baby)
READ TOGETHER
As we approach Christmas together we will spend the next eight days considering the wonders of Christ’s birth and what it means for us who are in Christ.
God’s desire is, and always has been, to live with us. In the Old Testament God lived with his people in a tent called the Tabernacle. How does God live with us today? Does he live in a tent? Does he live in a church building? No and no. Today God lives in us. In us? Yes. God lives in us by the power of the Holy Spirit.
In fact, what happens to us when we become a Christian is not unlike what happened to Mary when Jesus was born. The angel appeared to Mary and told her she would be pregnant with baby Jesus, and when she asked how this could be, this is the answer the angel gave to her:
Luke 1:35. And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
The Holy Spirit came and put baby Jesus into Mary physically.
The Holy Spirit comes and put the savior Jesus into us spiritually.
Just like Mary, we have Jesus growing inside of us. Not physically like a baby in a pregnant mama, but spiritually Jesus’ love and goodness is growing in our hearts. How? By the power of the Holy Spirit.
Mary’s story is our story. She was shown great grace and so were we. The grace of the Holy Spirit coming to us and living inside of us. The presence of God in us growing like a child of love.
Have you trusted in Jesus and his salvation by way of the cross? If you have then he is living inside of you, growing in you, changing you from the inside out. And just like Jesus himself, he is making you holy. He has made you a son of God.
Because of Jesus the Holy Spirit lives in us.
With Jesus we are being changed into his likeness a little bit more every day.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Do you have any sonogram pictures of your children? Look at them together. Talk about how babies grow inside their mothers and in the same way Jesus’ life and love is growing inside of us.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
You grew inside your mother Mary physically and you are growing inside of me spiritually. Help me to be more like you from the inside out every day.
Amen.
