Do you know what a prophecy is? Can you name a prophecy about Jesus that is in the Bible?
In the Bible there are several books that were written by prophets. Do you know what a prophet is? A prophet was someone who received God’s word and then told it to the people.
Isaiah was a prophet that not only heard the word of Jesus but he also saw Jesus in Heaven. Listen to how Isaiah describes his experience in heaven:
Isaiah 6:1-8. In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” 9 And he said, “Go.”
Did you notice how Isaiah’s trip to heaven to see Jesus (the Lord seated on a throne) started out scary but ended OK? Isaiah’s trip to heaven is super important. Why? Because it shows us how all of us are supposed to relate to Jesus. There are four steps that all of us must go through with Jesus in order to move from scary to OK.
Step 1: Know that Jesus is holy.
Isaiah went to heaven and saw Jesus on his throne surrounded by angels crying out “Holy. Holy. Holy.” Jesus is perfect. Jesus is God. Jesus cannot stand sin.
Step 2: Woe is me.
Isaiah saw how perfect and holy Jesus is and he immediately felt sad. Why? Because he knew that he was NOT perfect and good like Jesus.
Step 3: Be cleansed by Jesus.
After Isaiah admitted that he was a sinner, Jesus sent an angel to touch his lips with a hot coal. This is a strange thing, but it is a picture of how Jesus cleanses us and takes away our sin, when we admit that we need him.
Step 4: Go!
Now that Isaiah has been made holy like Jesus, he can live his life FOR Jesus. He can go tell others about Jesus and his holiness and his grace.
Have you had an experience like Isaiah’s? Have you thought about how perfect and holy Jesus is, and how sinful you are? Have you asked Jesus to forgive you and cleanse you of your sin? And have you told Jesus that you will go and live for him?
Because of Jesus you can be cleansed of your sin and made holy like him.
With Jesus you can go and live for him, knowing he is always with you.
