TLIC FAMILY. DAY 84. MARCH 25: WAIT FOR THE LORD.

Have you ever felt exhausted? What did you do when you felt that way?

Sometimes when your young it can feel like you can run forever without getting tired. People might even say about you, “Where does he/she get all that energy?”

But eventually everyone gets tired. And sometimes we don’t just get tired, we want to quit. Sometimes in life we want to give up too, especially when it seems like God is not doing what we want.

But Isaiah shares with us one of the greatest promises in all the Bible. Listen to these words from Isaiah 40 and see if you can hear the promise of God:

Isaiah 40:28-31.

²⁸ Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
    his understanding is unsearchable.
²⁹ He gives power to the faint,
    and to him who has no might he increases strength.
³⁰ Even youths shall faint and be weary,
    and young men shall fall exhausted;
³¹ but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint.

God never gets tired. God never quits. God never runs out of energy. And God is way smarter than us. And so we can and must trust him. Or the word Isaiah uses is “wait.” We must “wait for the Lord.”

But nobody likes to wait do they? Do you like to wait for things? Me either. We are very impatient at times aren’t we?

But God is very, very patient. And he often moves very slow. Why? Because he knows exactly what we need and when we need it. And so we must all learn to wait for God. In life, as you grow up, it will be tempting to try to solve all your own problems. But God wants us to stop trying to fix everything and instead simply pray and ask him what he wants us to learn from our problems. And that kind of waiting on God can be really hard to do.

But with Jesus we know that we can have his love inside of us, allowing us to wait and not have to fix everything all the time. With Jesus you don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t have to get everything right. With Jesus you can try your best without having to be the best.  

And that is what Isaiah calls “renewed strength.” The strength of knowing that God loves you no matter what. And that strength will let you soar with eagles. When we admit that we are unable to be good enough on our own, that is when Jesus will pick us up on his wings and fly us away to the safety of God’s goodness and grace.

Because of Jesus it’s OK to not be the best at everything, because he’s the best.

With Jesus we can fly on eagles’ wings, knowing that God loves us no matter what.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Run around outside together until you get tired. Talk about how when we are tired in life God picks us up by loving us and using us to love others.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

Thank you for never getting tired and for never, ever quitting on me. Help me to wait for you and to trust you with my whole life.
