TLIC FAMILY. DAY 86. MARCH 27: HIS OWN ARM.

THINK TOGETHER

Do you like putting together puzzles? Why or why not?

READ TOGETHER

The Bible is sort of like a puzzle. If you only have one piece of a puzzle you will never know what the picture is supposed to look like. But as you look at more and more pieces the big picture starts to take shape. It becomes clearer.

The Bible is the same way. Over hundreds and hundreds of years, God gave his people, Israel, pieces of his big puzzle. And the book of Isaiah gives us two very important pieces of God’s puzzle. The puzzle of how he will save us from our sins.

Yesterday we saw the first of those pieces – God will provide a “lamb” to take way our sins.

Today let’s look at a second very big puzzle piece. It comes from Isaiah 59:

Isaiah 59:15-16. The LORD saw it, and it displeased him
    that there was no justice.
16 He saw that there was no man,
    and wondered that there was no one to intercede;
then his own arm brought him salvation,
    and his righteousness upheld him.

Isaiah describes God looking around for someone to save us, but he can’t find anyone that can do it. He says “there was no man.”

Why can’t someone who is a man or woman like us save us? Because that man or woman would be just as sinful as you and as me. We need a “lamb” that is perfect. We need a savior that never sinned. And “no man” (or “no person”) lives up to what God needs – a perfect sacrifice.

Have you ever heard an adult say, “If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself?” Well that’s what God said too. He said since no human can save all the other humans that he would do it himself. His OWN ARM would bring salvation. And do you know what that means? It means God had to become a person, a human, a man.

And God did become a man – Jesus.

Jesus is God’s lamb that was sacrificed for us, and Jesus is God’s mighty and powerful arm that brought our salvation. How? Because Jesus is both God and he is a person. He is God who became a person. Because Jesus is a person he can be our substitute. Our lamb. And because Jesus is God he is powerful enough to carry our sins and defeat them on the cross. And now, in Jesus, all the puzzle pieces come together and we can see the beautiful way that God saves us.

Because of Jesus God has the person he needs to save us.

With Jesus we can be saved by God from our sins.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Put together a puzzle together and talk about how the Bible is like a puzzle that gives us all the pieces we need to reveal Jesus.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

You are my lamb and you are God’s mighty arm that saves us from sin and death. Thank you for rescuing me.

Amen.
