TLIC FAMILY. DAY 178. JUNE 27: CHRIST FORMED IN YOU.

THINK TOGETHER

What are some things in your house that are growing?

READ TOGETHER

Living things take time to grow. When you plant a seed in a pot it takes time to turn into a plant. When a baby is inside its mom it takes time to grow. When you were born you were very little. Now, over time, you are much bigger. You are growing.

Listen to how Paul describes Jesus growing inside of us:

Galatians 4:19. my little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you!

The Apostle Paul tells the Galatians Christians that Christ is being formed in them. Boy that sure sounds strange doesn’t it?

Now remember, the man Jesus is in heaven seated next to God. But the spirit of Jesus is everywhere, including inside of everyone who has trusted in him for salvation from sin and a new life with God. So if you are Christian, then Jesus is living in you by the power of the Holy Spirit.

And Jesus inside of us is “being formed” or growing. Just like a baby inside its mommy’s tummy. Or just like a plant growing in your garden.

What this means is that you are becoming more and more like Jesus but it is very, very, very, slow. Jesus is changing us from the inside out. That is a promise. But that change take time and it takes going through some hard things along the way in order to help us learn to trust Jesus more and more, and worship him more and more.

So Jesus changes us, but it is very slow and often very hard. But in the end it is very worth it. Why? Because we get to become more and more like Jesus. More kind. More loving. More faithful. More friendly. More trustworthy. More humble. And if all these things don’t happen on this side of heaven, then they definitely will when we are with Jesus in heaven one day. And that’s something we can all look forward to together.

Because of Jesus we are being formed into his likeness by the Holy Spirit in us.

With Jesus we can be more like him each day.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Look at baby pictures together, or pictures that show how the kids have grown over the years. Talk about how that same growth is happening inside of them too by the Holy Spirit changing us into Jesus’ likeness – love, joy, peace, etc.

And this is fun to watch:

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

Keep changing me into your likeness!

Amen.
