THINK TOGETHER
How much money do you think you’re worth? 10 dollars? 100 dollars? 1 million dollars?
READ TOGETHER
God made you.
God made all of you.
God made your spirit. God made your soul. And God made your body.
And God loves every part of you the same. He loves YOU which means he loves each part of you equally.
Sometimes people try to separate the inside part of us, the spirit, from the outside part of us, the body. But the Bible says that we should never do that. When Paul wrote to the Corinthians, many of them thought that God only cared about the inside spiritual part of them, and that he didn’t care about the outside physical part. They thought that God didn’t care about what they did with their bodies.
But listen to how Paul explains it to them here in 1 Corinthians 6:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
What we do with our bodies is very important to God. Why? Here’s what the Bible says:
First, because our body is the temple of God here on earth. When we trust in Jesus and become a Christian, God lives inside our bodies. This means that everything we do with our bodies should be a way to worship God.
Second, our bodies are important to God because God purchased us with the life of Jesus. We were bought with a price – Jesus’ blood on the cross. We do not belong to ourselves. We belong to God.
Third, our bodies are important because Jesus is living his life through your body. Jesus is loving others through you. Jesus is being kind through what you do. Jesus is sharing when you share.
Fourth, our bodies are important because what we do with our bodies shows that we trust Jesus. When we are mean or selfish with our bodies, when we fight, or steal, or pout, we show that we are not trusting Jesus. But when we obey, and give, and help others we show that we trust Jesus.
And fifth, our bodies are important because one day our bodies will be resurrected from the dead just like Jesus’ body. And we will live with God forever on a new earth. We will walk with Jesus and talk with Jesus, and hug Jesus, and high five Jesus, and it will be amazing!
Because of Jesus our bodies are very important.
With Jesus everything we do with our bodies can be a way to worship God.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Look at items around your house together and talk about which ones are more and less valuable – which ones cost the most? What did they cost?
What did it cost for God to purchase us?
Talk to your kids about how they are the most valuable thing in the world to God. We are his most prized possession.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
You didn’t just save my soul, you saved my body. I can’t wait to live with you forever.
Amen.
