TLIC FAMILY. DAY 217. AUGUST 5: FAITH NOT SIGHT.

THINK TOGETHER

What are some things you can see right now? What are some things that you can’t see? Do the things that you can’t see still exist even when you can’t see them.

READ TOGETHER

More than anything else God wants us to live by faith. He wants us to trust him even though we can’t see him. Here’s how Paul said it to the Corinthians:

2 Corinthians 5:7. for we walk by faith, not by sight.

With these eight simple words Paul has summed up what it means to live as a Christian. Christians live by faith instead of by what they can see with their eyes.

What are some things you can see right now? What are some ways you use your sense of sight to live your life?

Now think about some things that you CAN’T see right now. Can you see God? Jesus? Heaven? Can you see what will happen in the future?

It’s hard to worship and obey an invisible God isn’t it? But that’s faith.

It’s hard to see remember that in the end everything will be alright in Heaven. But that’s faith.

It’s hard to be kind to others even when you can’t see them being kind in return. But that’s faith.

And our faith makes God very happy.

Here’s another important truth to learn as we grow up: just because we can’t see it with our eyes doesn’t mean that it’s not real. In fact, the greatest realities are usually invisible. The things that will last forever are not the things you can touch with your hands or carry around.

Eventually many of the things we can see and touch will get old and break. We will throw them away. Or we will lose them. And as we get older the things that we can see that we will be tempted to trust in, they too will fade away or be taken away or change over time. Things like money, or cool clothes, or a job, or even our own abilities. All of these will eventually end.

But God never ends. His love never ends. Heaven will never end. And these invisible but eternal things are what we must put our trust in each day.

Because of Jesus we know we can trust God even though he is invisible.

With Jesus we can walk by faith and not by sight.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Play a blindfold game with your kids. Here’s a website with several game options:

Talk about how being a Christian can often feel like we are blindfolded. We can’t always see what we want to see and so we have to learn to trust God.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

Help me to trust in you and love you even though I can’t see you. Help me to trust that you are at work even when I can’t see all that you are doing.

Amen.
