TLIC FAMILY. DAY 260. SEPTEMBER 17: SEALED.

THINK TOGETHER

Have you ever put your name on something so that everyone would know it’s yours? What was it?

READ TOGETHER

There will probably be times as you grow up that you will doubt whether or not you are really a saved Christian. I remember when I was growing up that I prayed to trust Jesus as my savior a few times because I would question my own sincerity, or I would think about how bad I had been and wonder if God still loved me enough to save me.

But when we doubt our own salvation it’s always because we have been looking at ourselves instead of at Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Listen to how Paul describes the Holy Spirit here in Ephesians chapter 1:

Ephesians 1:3-13.In Jesus you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,

The Bible says that when we believed in Jesus we were “sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.”

Sealed?

In Paul’s day the seal of the emperor might be placed on a document or an item showing that it truly came from the king himself (Jesus’ tomb was sealed shut by the Romans – same word).

So here’s what the seal means – we belong to God. Forever. How do we know? Do we know because we have been very obedient lately? Do we know because we always believe and never forget?

No.

We know because we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. God himself is stuck to us like a wax seal. Or just like when you write your name on something that is yours, that is exactly what God has done. He has written his name on you so that you will always know that you are God’s and he is yours.

Because of Jesus we are sealed with the Holy Spirit – God himself.

With Jesus we know that we belong to God no matter what.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

In Toy Story 2 there’s a great scene where Woody remembers that he belongs to Andy and he scrapes off the paint that was painted over Andy’s name earlier in the movie. Andy’s name on Woody is the “SEAL” of Andy. In the same way we belong to Jesus.

Find something that you have written your name on to show that it belongs to you. This is what God has done for you too!

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

You have written your name on me and I belong to you. The Holy Spirit in me is the proof, not what I do. Help me to always trust your love for me.

Amen.
