THINK TOGETHER
Have you ever left a job or project unfinished?
READ TOGETHER
When I was a kid I asked Jesus to save me more than once. I don’t remember exactly how many times I did it, but I definitely asked Jesus into my heart many times over the years.
Have you asked Jesus to be your savior yet? Have you asked him to do it more than once?
It’s pretty normal in our life as a Christian to be unsure about our own salvation. Even as an adult you might question whether or not you really, truly are a Christian. As a pastor I’ve talked to many people who have doubted their own salvation.
But at the beginning of Paul’s letter to the Philippian church he tells us something that can answer our questions and doubts about our salvation once and for all. Here it is:
Philippians 1:6. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Paul tells the Philippian Christians, and us, that we can be sure that we are saved. How? Because he knows that our salvation is all God’s doing and not our doing.
When I was a kid asking Jesus to save me over and over I can remember that it was because I wasn’t sure if had prayed correctly, or if I was being good enough, or if was sincere enough. But all of those questions are about ME. But the truth is we must stop looking at ourselves and always look at God instead.
God began the good work in us.
God will complete the good work in you.
How do we know? Because we are connected to Jesus and God will never, ever give up on Jesus. And if he will never, ever give up on Jesus then he will never, ever give up on you or me either.
So if you ever doubt your own salvation again just stop and remember that even though you are doubting, God never is. Even though you have messed up, God never will. Even though you will let God down, he will never let you down. God can save you. God wants to save you. God will save you. Not because of you, but because of Jesus.
Because of Jesus God will complete his good work in you – your salvation.
With Jesus we never have to doubt if we are saved.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Philippians 1:6 is a great verse to memorize as a family. This song may help.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
I’m connected to you, and God will never give up on you so he will never give up on me. Thank you God for finishing what you started in me.
Amen.
