TLIC FAMILY. DAY 296. OCTOBER 23: THE PEACE OF CHRIST.

THINK TOGETHER

Where do you go to feel peace and quiet?

READ TOGETHER

In the Old Testament the prophet Isaiah calls Jesus the Prince of Peace. Jesus is the ruler who brings us peace. One day Jesus will come back to Earth and he will become the king of the planet and everyone on earth will live happy and healthy lives without conflict and without arguments or fights. What a great day that will be!

But for now Jesus can still rule. Not on a physical throne in a big palace. But on the throne of our heart. The Prince of Peace can be the king of our lives. Here’s how Paul says it to the Colossians:

Colossians 3:15. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.

What rules in your heart? What sits on the throne of your life? Who makes the decisions for you? Or maybe we could ask it this way – what make you angry and upset? What makes you feel safe and happy?

Whatever that thing or person is, is the ruler of your heart.

Do you get mad when you don’t get your way?

Do you get frustrated when you lose?

Do you worry and get afraid about things that probably won’t ever happen?

Do you pick on others?

Do you wonder if God loves you?

Do you keep asking Jesus into your heart over and over again because you aren’t sure about how well you’ve done as a Christian?

I you are saying YES to some of these questions then the peace of Jesus Christ is not in charge in your heart. Something else is in charge – probably you yourself.

So how do we let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts?

We have to keep reminding ourselves of all that Jesus has done for us on the cross and all that he is going to do for us when he takes us to Heaven with him. It’s when we forget about Jesus that we get angry, and upset, and worried, and mean. But when we spend time thinking about how much he loves us and how well he is taking care of us, then we can know that we will always be OK. We will always be loved no matter what. We will always be with God and nothing can ever change that.

Because of Jesus we are always at peace with God.

With Jesus we can feel his peace in our hearts.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Go somewhere as a family that helps you feel peace and quiet. Talk about why that place makes you feel peaceful. How does Jesus do these same things in our hearts?

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

Rule in my heart with your peace.

Amen.
