TLIC FAMILY. DAY 318. NOVEMBER 14: FIRM TO THE END.

THINK TOGETHER

Have you ever quit something before it was over?

READ TOGETHER

The Old Testament tells the story of how the Israelites were set free from their slavery in Egypt by the amazing power of God as they crossed through the Red Sea on dry ground. Do you remember that story?

But that amazing story soon turned to tragedy as many of those same Israelite people stopped trusting God and refused to go into the Promised Land. Then, as a result, they had to live in the desert for forty years and die there without enjoying all of God’ promises.

In the New Testament book of Hebrews there is a warning given to us Christians to not do the same thing as the Israelites of old. Here’s the warning:

Hebrews 3:13-14. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.

What is Hebrews saying to us?

DON’T QUIT!

The Israelites’ hearts were “hardened” against God. Why? Because they were “deceived by sin.” They thought going back to Egypt would be better for them. They thought that the Promised Land was not worth all their time and effort. They thought God would not keep his promise to protect them and bring them home. They believed that God had lied to them and did not love anymore.

Lots of people become Christians when they are younger like you. Then over time they stop trusting God. They stop believing in Jesus. They give up on the promises of God. Often when Christian kids get to college or move away from their mom and dad they decide that they aren’t Christians anymore.

But Jesus says DON’T QUIT on me. Why? Because Jesus will never ever quit on you. No matter what.

So every day remind yourself of Jesus and his love for you. Remind yourself that God will never give up on you. Remind yourself how much he loves you. And help each other to never quit on God and his promises.

Because of Jesus God will never quit on us.

With Jesus we can stay faithful to the end when he brings us home.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

You can sing this hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness together.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

I never ever want to quit on you. And I know you will never quit on me. Help me to stay faithful to you until the end.

Amen.
