THINK TOGETHER
Has anyone ever shared something very special with you? What was it?
READ TOGETHER
Jesus is the greatest sharer in the universe. He wants to give us everything that is his and everything that we could ever need. Look at these verses written in the Apostle Peter’s second letter, and see if you can hear what Jesus has shared with us:
2 Peter 1:3-4. 3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
Jesus has shared with us “everything that pertains to life and godliness,” and he has shared with us the “divine nature.”
Wow.
Those sound like some pretty big and important things don’t they? Jesus wants us to “partake” or share in the nature of God.
Does this mean that we all become mini-gods, or demi-gods like Maui in the movie Moana? No. And it definitely doesn’t mean that we become God himself. And it doesn’t mean that we get absorbed into God like a million little drops of water in a pool.
But what it does mean is that Jesus wants us to be like God. To share his love. To share his kindness. To share his joy and peace. Jesus wants us to be like Jesus.
And the good news is that when you have asked Jesus to save you and to come live inside your heart, then you already are sharing in the divine nature. You already have the same goodness as Jesus. His character. His grace. His humility (see yesterday’s entry).
With Jesus we have everything we need to live the godly life he wants us to. No matter what happens we can be like him. Do you believe this?
Because of Jesus we share in his very own nature.
With Jesus we can live a life of godliness like him.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Watch this scene from Moana together. Maui is a demi-god (not a real thing). But notice how proud he is. This is actually the opposite of what Jesus’ nature is – he is humble. Maybe instead of a “You’re Welcome” song, you could write a “Thank You” song together for Jesus.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
You are the best sharer ever. Thank you for letting me share in your life and in your nature. Help me to be godly like you are each and every day.
