THINK TOGETHER
In what ways do you help your family? How does your family help you?
READ TOGETHER
When God finished making the earth, the plants, the animals, the sky, and the water he looked at it and said that it was all “very good.” When God made the bears he made a boy bear and a girl bear. And when he made the ostriches he made a boy ostrich and a girl ostrich. Boy dolphin and girl dolphin. Boy platypus and girl platypus. God made all the animals in pairs so that they wouldn’t be alone. But when God made Adam he was all alone, and God said, “this is not good.”
Genesis 2:18. Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
What did God do to fix the problem? God made a helper for Adam named Eve. In the Bible a “helper” is someone who does things for you that you could never do on your own. A helper takes care of you, encourages you, supports you, and protects you. In fact, in the Bible it says that God is our greatest helper.
So why did Adam need a helper? Why did he need Eve? Because Adam needed to learn how to love and share. It is not good for us to be all alone because only when we are with other people can we become less selfish and more kind. Sometimes living with your family will be hard. Sometimes you will fight and hurt each other’s feelings. But when it’s the most hard to love, that’s when we have a Helper that loves us and is nice to us no matter what. Jesus!
Jesus came to earth from heaven to do for us what we could never do for ourselves – love perfectly. And then Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with God. With Jesus you will never be alone. Jesus can live in your heart and help you to love God and love others every single day, forever!
Because of Jesus we will never be without help.
With Jesus we can be a helper like him.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Today try to do something for someone that they could not do for themselves. Talk about how you can be helpers like Jesus.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, thank you for being my greatest helper and for dying for my sins so that I can live with God forever. Show me ways that I can help others today like you. Amen.
