THINK TOGETHER.
What’s the most foolish thing you’ve ever done?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 1:22. “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?
The opposite of being wise is being a fool. In the Bible a fool isn’t just someone who is stupid, in fact, a fool can have lots of knowledge. A fool in the Bible is someone who doesn’t believe what God says. This makes the fool unable to live the way God wants them to live. The fool thinks they can do whatever they want.
What would happen if you ate whatever you want? What would happen if you treated people any way you want? What would happen if you always did whatever you want? You would grow up to be a fool, that’s what.
The worst kind of fool is the person who puts something above God in their life. God wants us to enjoy all that he has made, but worship only him. God wants us to enjoy all that he has made, but in the right way that he has made it. Don’t give a cat a bath. God didn’t make cats to like baths. Don’t eat only pop tarts. God didn’t make you to eat only pop tarts. Don’t throw rocks at your sister. God didn’t make her to be hit by rocks. Don’t be mean. God didn’t make you to be mean. Don’t change the rules in the middle of the game. God didn’t make your friends to like it when you change the rules in the middle of the game.
In the New Testament Jesus said that fools build houses on sand, and when it rains the house sinks into the sand is destroyed. Then Jesus said that the wise build their house on a rock. No matter how much it rains, or how hard the wind blows, nothing can destroy that house on solid ground. That’s how people are who trust Jesus. No matter what the love of God keeps them safe and secure.
Because of Jesus we don’t have to be fools.
With Jesus our life is built on solid ground.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Do you remember the kid’s song The Wise Man and the Foolish Man? Why not sing it together?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, I don’t want to be a fool. I want to live the way you tell me to, including trusting you to save me from my sins. Amen.
