TLIC FAMILY. DAY 15. JANUARY 15: BUT NOAH.

THINK TOGETHER

Have you ever received something good even though you didn’t deserve it?

READ TOGETHER

The Bible tells us that every person born after Adam and Eve would have sin inside of them. That includes you and me. We aren’t born good. We are born bad. Did anyone have to teach you how to be bad? How to be selfish, or pout, or get angry? NOPE. All that sin is inside of us from the moment we’re born. In fact, we have to be taught how to be good. How to be kind, and share, and not whine when we don’t get what we want.

The Bible also says that after Adam and Eve sinned people kept getting more and more wicked. Listen to how God describes it here in Genesis 6:

Genesis 6:5-8. The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually… So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land…for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

The people God created have become so wicked, so hateful and hurtful that they don’t love God or each other anymore. And because the people have become so bad, God will have to destroy their sin by destroying them. This is called God’s judgment. And it’s scary. But then we hear these words of hope: But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

The word favor means grace. Noah wasn’t perfect but he did trust God. And God graciously used Noah to build and ark and save humanity. The people in Noah’s day had to admit they were sinners and by faith enter the ark. You and I have to admit we are sinners and by faith trust that Jesus died for our sins. Jesus is our ark! We are protected by Jesus when we choose to live inside his love and forgiveness.

Because of Jesus we can be safe from God’s judgment upon sin.

With Jesus we can obey God like Noah did and tell others about God’s love.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Just like Noah found favor with God, you too have received God’s grace. Make a list as a family of some of the ways God has shown grace to you today/this week.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, you are even better than Noah because you never sinned and never needed to be saved. Thank you for making us safe from God’s judgment by your grace. Amen.
