THINK TOGETHER.
Have you ever gone for a hike on a trail? What do you remember about it?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 3:5. 5Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
The result of trusting God and knowing him in all we do is that we will have a straight path. A clearly marked path.
Have you ever gone for a hike on a trail? Was the trail clearly marked? Was it cleared of obstacles? Did you have a map to follow? Or maybe there was a sign at the start of the trail showing where it would lead. I’ve hiked on a lot of different trails all over America in different national parks. I’ve hiked in the woods of Shenandoah in Tennessee, and in the desert of Joshua Tree in California. And here’s what all those trails had in common: somebody had made the path, marked the path, and mapped the path for me. I didn’t do any of that myself. I just walked.
When we trust God we are trusting that he made the path. He made a way for us to be forgiven and free from our sin. We are trusting that he marked the path. We know exactly which way to go without getting lost. And we are trusting that he mapped the path. We know exactly where the path will take us in the end.
When Jesus was on earth he said, “I am the way (the path), no one comes to the Father except through me.” You see Jesus didn’t just show us how to make our path straight on our own. He IS our straight path. Jesus is how God made our path to Heaven free from all obstacles. Trusting in Jesus’ death on the cross for you doesn’t mean that you won’t have any problems in life, but it does mean that none of those problems can keep you from making it to God in Heaven. Trusting Jesus in all we do is our straight path.
Because of Jesus we have a straight path to God through faith in him.
With Jesus we are always on the straight path.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Take a hike on made, marked, and mapped trail. Talk about Jesus as our path.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you are my straight path to God. Keep me following your way. Amen.
