TLIC FAMILY: PROVERBS. DAY 46. FEBRUARY 15: CONTEND.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever been bullied? Have you ever been a bully?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 3:30. Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm.

You might remember from yesterday that Solomon is giving us specific ways to wisely love our neighbor. Here’s another one – don’t pick fights. Do not contend (argue, fight) with a person for no reason. This is what bullies do. They pick on and hassle others for no good reason other than they think they can.

Have you ever picked on someone? Made fun of them? If so, did it make you feel better about yourself? (probably not) Have you ever been picked on or been made fun of? If so, how did it make you feel? It is so important for us to remember that God loves everyone and that God made everyone in his image. Therefore, no one deserves to be bullied or picked on. Especially those who have done you no ham.

Jesus taught “Blessed are the peacemakers.” A peacemaker never contends with others just because they can. A peacemaker helps others get along so that there aren’t fights. Which are you? A bully or a peacemaker? Or maybe you’re quiet and just want to mind your own business. Remember, Jesus definitely doesn’t want us to start fights, but he also doesn’t want us to just mind our own business when it comes to helping those in need. You don’t have to be nosy, but you should pay attention to how others are feeling so you can help them feel better.

Does all this sound too hard? Well, it is hard. But don’t worry Jesus lives in your heart when you trust in him. His love is in there, and so is his peace. When we remember that Jesus loves us and that he never bullies us, then we can learn to become a peacemaker like he was. We can help others feel safe and happy just like he does in our hearts today and every day.

Because of Jesus we have the peace and kindness of God in our hearts.

With Jesus we can be peacemakers not bullies.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Talk about bullying with your kids. Create a plan for what to do if your child is ever bullied.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, from your peace in my heart let me bring peace to others. Amen.
