THINK TOGETHER.
What do you want more than anything else?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 4:7. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
This verse is a bit playful (or maybe confusing) isn’t it? How does a person begin to be wise? By getting wisdom of course.
The key word here is GET. To be wise you have to go after wisdom. You have to want it. You have to seek it. You have to pursue it. More than anything else in your life. And the good news is that anyone can do this. Wisdom is for everyone. You don’t have to be smart to be wise. You don’t have to be old to be wise. You don’t have to rich to be wise. You only need one thing to be wise: the fear of the Lord.
Proverbs 1:7. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
What is the fear of the Lord? It is trusting God, loving God, obeying God, and caring about what he cares about. And Jesus is the way that people can trust God, love God, obey God and care about what he cares about. Without Jesus we can’t fear God and therefore, we can’t be wise. So we might re-write Proverbs 4:7 to say The beginning of wisdom is this: get Jesus!
Just like wisdom, anyone can get Jesus. Young, old. Rich, poor. Boy, girl. No matter what you look like or where you’re from, you can get Jesus. Jesus is never far away. Jesus is never out of reach. Jesus is never hiding. Jesus never runs out. In fact, we can always get Jesus because Jesus has already got us. If you trust in him he is living inside your heart. Now, all you have to do is turn to him and receive his love and grace. That’s wisest thing you could ever do.
Because of Jesus we have access to God’s wisdom all the time.
With Jesus we can always find wisdom.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Play a game where you hide an object and it has to be found (like Easter eggs). Talk about how we must keep searching for wisdom through Jesus, but Jesus hides in plain sight, he is never too hard to find. Ask: How can you keep seeking Jesus?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you got me first so that I can get you. Thank you! Amen.
