TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. MARCH 17: INNOCENT BLOOD.

THINK TOGETHER.

Have you ever been hurt by someone? How did that make you feel?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 6:16-17. 16There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 hands that shed innocent blood.

This next sin that God hates is a big one – shedding innocent blood. This means hurting other people. Innocent people. People that don’t deserve to be hurt. Do you remember the story of Cain and Abel? Cain was jealous of his brother Abel and so he killed his brother. But Abel was innocent. This made God very angry.

But is it just killing that makes God angry? Well, when Jesus talked about God’s law against killing he said that we shouldn’t even be angry at others or call them names. Jesus said that when we hate someone we have killed them in our hearts. Yikes!

Jesus was an innocent person whose blood was shed by the hands of angry people. When Jesus was nailed to the cross God hated it. But God also loved those people so much that he let Jesus die for them and for you and for me. And we’re not innocent either, are we? Jesus was innocent and his blood was shed, but we are NOT innocent and God chooses to save us not hurt us. The more we believe this, the more we will be able to control our hatred and anger and not hurt others. Especially others who don’t deserve it.

Because of Jesus we will not be hurt by God even though we are guilty.

With Jesus we never have to hurt others, especially the innocent.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Talk about what causes each of you to get angry. Create a “calm zone” in your house where people can go instead of acting on their anger. Fill your calm zone with Bible verses or prayers that remind of God’s love for us and his grace for us even though we are undeserving.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, you were innocent yet you died for me. Help me to believe this and let it control my anger. Amen.
