THINK TOGETHER.
What plans do you have for today?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 6:16-18. 16There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 18… a heart that devises wicked plans,
In Solomon’s list of seven sins the heart is right at the center – a heart that devises wicked plans. Why do you think Solomon put the heart in the middle like this? That’s right, because our heart is at the center of all we do. Your heart is the core of who you are. It is where all your loves and desires live. Your heart is your control center that decides what you want. Your heart is super important because we always do what we most want to do.
Solomon says that our heart devises plans. It decides what to do. It calculates things out. Every choice you make starts in your heart. So let me ask you, what plans do you have for today? Are they wicked? Do you ever think about how you’d like to hurt someone? Get even with them? Trick them? Bully them?
The good news is that your heart doesn’t have to devise wicked plans. It can also devise good plans, righteous plans. Your heart can decide what kind of person you want to be and then make plans to be that kind of person. A nice person. A helpful person. A kind person. A friend. Your heart can devise good plans instead of wicked plans because Jesus can change your heart. If you are trusting in him then he already has changed your heart. And with your new heart you can make a plan to love God and love others today and every day.
Because of Jesus you have a new heart.
With Jesus you can plan to do good things today.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Does your family have a calendar where you right down the day’s plans? What plans does your family have for today? Talk about the truth that we always choose or plan to do what we most want to do (the things we think are best for us). What plans would God want your family to make for today?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, keep changing my heart so that I want to follow you and care for others. Amen.
