TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. MARCH 24: WHEN(EVER).

THINK TOGETHER.

Do you have any special necklaces? What makes them special?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 6:22. When you walk, they [mom and dad’s teachings] will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you.

Solomon’s words sound a lot like what God told parents in the book of Deuteronomy:

Deuteronomy 6:7. You shall teach them [God’s commandments] diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

In Deuteronomy the parents are teaching their kids the word of God all the time. In Proverbs the kids are listening to the word of God through their parent’s teaching all the time. When a family puts these two things together – parents teaching God’s ways, and kids listening to God’s ways – then you will have a pretty wise family.

Kids – there is no time or place in life where the word of God, taught to you by mom and dad, won’t lead you to a safe place within the plan of God.

Parents – there is no time or place that you can’t be teaching God’s word and God’s ways to your kids.

Of course Jesus knew this too. He took the words of his Heavenly Father with him wherever he went. He only did what his Abba (Dad) in Heaven told him to do. He only said what God the Father told him to say. Jesus was led by the word of God, watched over by the word of God, and talked to by the word of God. Are you?

Because of Jesus we can be taught by our Heavenly Father.

With Jesus we can listen to mom and dad when they teach us God’s word.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

How can you practice Deuteronomy 6:7? Repetition is the key to living God’s word. How can you repeat gospel promises to each other throughout the day?

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, teach me, lead me, watch over me, and talk to me by your word, the Bible. Amen.
