THINK TOGETHER.
Do you remember the days of creation from Genesis 1?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 8:24-25. 24When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. 25Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth,
In Genesis it says that the earth started out “empty and without shape.” It describes God gathering all the waters together as seas and then creating the land. Genesis says that all of this was “good.” Or we might say it was all WISE.
That’s what Solomon is saying here in Proverbs 8. Solomon has Lady Wisdom (remember, not a real lady) telling us the story of creation. She says that even before the seas and land were made, she was brought forth. That’s a fancy way of saying born. Wisdom was born before anything was created by God.
Why is this important? Because it teaches us that all creation reveals the wisdom of God and should cause us to fear and worship him. The oceans and mountains should cause us to see God’s wisdom. What if there were no oceans? What if there was no land? Not only are these things beautiful to look at, they are wise. We need both to survive.
Sadly, many people are foolish and have taken God out of the creation story. They try to imagine how oceans and mountains came to exist without a God. They believe that everything just popped into existence from nothing. But that’s not possible. Something can’t come from nothing can it? Everything needs a wise God to create it, including you and me.
And we need a wise God to not only live on our planet, but to live forever. That’s why Jesus was also brought forth. Jesus, the Creator, became the new creation when he was born as a baby in a manger. Now, the wisest thing you can do is to trust in Jesus as your savior, and become the new creation like him.
Because of Jesus we can become the new creation.
With Jesus we can enjoy God’s creation and worship him in wisdom.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Go outside and look at God’s creation. In what ways is it all very wise?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, thank you for this beautiful planet and for saving me! Amen.
