THINK TOGETHER.
Is there anything in your house that you have neglected? (a plant, a closet)
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 8:33. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.
One of the worst things we can do in life is to neglect the wisdom of God. What does neglect mean? It means to not pay any attention to something, to not care about it, and to stop doing it. What happens when you neglect brushing your teeth? What happens when you neglect eating healthy foods? What happens when we neglect doing your homework?
What happens when we neglect God’s wisdom? If we neglect reading our Bible or going to church? And more importantly, what happens when we neglect Jesus?
If we neglect learning about Jesus and his love for us, we will easily forget that we are forgiven and loved by him. We will drift away from the good news of Jesus into trusting other things like our own good works. Here’s how the book of Hebrews says it in the New Testament:
Hebrews 2:1. Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.
And Hebrews also warns about neglecting church:
Hebrews 10:25. not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another;
But let’s make sure we understand that if we neglect Jesus. the Bible, and going to church Jesus never neglects us. He still loves us no matter what we do or don’t do. His love is unconditional. But our love isn’t. So that’s why we must always pursue the wisdom of God’s love in Jesus Christ.
Because of Jesus God will never neglect us.
With Jesus we can pay attention to the good news of his cross every day.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Help your kids to develop their own personal devotional time with Jesus. Talk about making scripture, prayer, and church a habit that we don’t want to neglect.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, help me to never neglect you and your wise love for me. Amen.
