TLIC FAMILY. PROVERBS. APRIL 18: WATCHING, WAITING.

THINK TOGETHER.

What are you waiting for today?

READ TOGETHER

Proverbs 8:34. Blessed is the one who listens to me [Wisdom], watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.

The image Solomon is using here is of someone waiting outside the door for the other person to get home. Have you ever waited in anticipation for someone you love to get home, or maybe for a friend to come over? You couldn’t wait for them to arrive. Maybe you even kept looking out the window to see if they were here yet. That’s how we should be watching and waiting for God’s wisdom.

Another way to think about this is to ask yourself, “I am excited to learn about God and his ways?” How would you answer that question? Do you look forward to hearing what God says? Do you love going to church and hearing the stories from the Bible? Most importantly, do you enjoy spending time with Jesus? Or are you easily distracted by all the other things in this world?

There’s a story in the New Testament about Jesus going up onto a mountain with Peter, James, and John. There on the mountain top Jesus started glowing with the glory of God, the heavens opened up and God said, “This is my beloved Son, listen to him.” Just like Wisdom says blessed is the one who listens to me, God is saying “blessed is the one who listens to Jesus.”

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to listen to Jesus.

Because of Jesus we can’t wait to learn about God.

With Jesus we CAN know God.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Make a list of things your family is looking forward to (waiting for). Remind your kids that with Jesus we don’t really have to wait to spend time with him, we can do it anytime.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, help me to be excited about spending time with you and learning about God’s wisdom through you. Amen.
