THINK TOGETHER.
Is there anything that you’ve misplaced that you need to look for today?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 8:35-36. 35For whoever finds me [Wisdom] finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, 36but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death.”
Yesterday we were waiting for wisdom, like a child looking out the window waiting for their grandparents to arrive. We ae always watching for Wisdom to show up. We are always excited to spend time with Jesus.
Today we are finding Wisdom. We aren’t waiting for Wisdom to show up, we are going out and looking for her. And if we find wisdom we find life. But if we don’t find wisdom, we find death instead. Yikes.
You see if you look for anything in life to make you feel happy other than God’s wisdom through Jesus and his love, sacrifice, and forgiveness it will lead to unhappiness. Solomon calls this death. No, these things might not make you die physically, but they can make you die spiritually.
Let’s say you go chase after success in sports but without God’s wisdom. Maybe you’ll get better at sports but you become prideful or a selfish teammate. Or if you chase after good grades in school without God’s wisdom, and you become driven by perfectionism, get stressed out, sick, and anxious all the time. These things are death not life.
But chasing after Jesus will always be life. Why? Because Jesus will never let you down. He will never demand success or perfection, just faith. That’s all he wants, for us to trust him no matter what. That’s life not death. That’s wisdom.
Because of Jesus we can always find God’s wisdom.
With Jesus God’s wisdom has already found us.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Play the “Hot and Cold” game. Hide something that you children need to find. As they get closer they are “getting hotter.” As they get further away, “getting colder.” Talk about how sometimes in life we are moving away from trusting Jesus and getting colder, so we want to always find him, know he first found us.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, thank you for finding me first so that I can always find you. Amen.
