What would it be like to share a brain with someone else?

Yesterday we were introduced to the church of Corinth. The Corinthian Christians thought that only a very special few of them would ever be able to have God’s “special knowledge.” They believed that some Christians will understand God and some won’t. Some will simply know more than others and be more spiritual, and therefore more like God.

But that is not true at all. Listen to what Paul tells the Corinthians here in chapter 2:

1 Corinthians 2:16. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

We have the mind of Christ.

Wow. What an amazing thing to say. The Apostle Paul is saying that every single Christian has Jesus living inside of them. And every single Christian has God, the Holy Spirit guiding them. That means that every single Christian shares the mind of Jesus.

And that means that if you are a Christian you can think like Jesus. You can know what God thinks. You share God’s brain – Jesus’ brain.

Do you and Jesus think about the same things?

You can.

In the book of Philippians, Paul will say these words:

Philippians 2:3-7. ³ Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. ⁴ Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. ⁵ Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, ⁶ who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, ⁷ but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant.

Do you think you can think this same way? Can you be a servant? Can you be humble? Can you put others first?

With Jesus you can. How? Because you can know that no matter what Jesus always loves you and is there for you. So you don’t have to put yourself first anymore. Now you can put others first every time and trust Jesus to take care of you. And he always will.

Because of Jesus you can know how God thinks.

With Jesus you can think like Jesus and put others first.

Watch this scene from Star Wars together. Talk about how Luke Skywalker had the mind of Obi Wan. Also make sure the kids know that Jesus/the Holy Spirit is personal and loves us and is not just a force.

Jesus,

Help me to think like you. Help me to put others first. Because you love me I know you will.
