THINK TOGETHER
Who do you love? What makes it easy to love them?
READ TOGETHER
One of the coolest things about being connected to Jesus is that not only do we get everything Jesus gets in the end, but right now we can actually feel and think like Jesus feels and thinks.
Listen to how Paul says it to the Christians in Philippi:
Philippians 1:8-9. 8 For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment
Paul tells these Christians that he “yearns for them with all the affection of Christ Jesus.” What does that mean? It means that he loves them just like Jesus loves them. But even more than just loving LIKE Jesus, he loves them AS Jesus. Paul is saying that his love IS Jesus’ love. Jesus’ love is inside of Paul.
Whoa.
Did you know that if you are a Christian that Jesus’ own love for others is inside of you?
Most Christians think that they have to figure out how to love. Or that they have to create feelings of love for others on their own. And yes we do need to learn how to love like Jesus. That’s why Paul prays in verse nine that their love would grow bigger and bigger.
But we don’t have to force ourselves to love others. Jesus’ love is already inside of us just waiting to get out.
How can we let it out? First by thinking about how much Jesus loves you. The more and more you believe that Jesus loves you no matter what, the more and more you will be able to love other people no matter what.
Because of Jesus we have God’s love inside of us waiting to get out.
With Jesus we can love others just like he does.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
In Philippians 1:9 Paul tells us to add knowledge to our love. First we love others, then we get to know them (not the other way around). Who can your family get to know this week. Make a plan to spend time with someone so that you can add knowledge to your love.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
You love me no matter what and you put your own love into my heart. Help me to let your love out.
Amen.
