THINK TOGETHER
What is something that you think about a lot?
READ TOGETHER
If you want to be a great guitar player, then you have to practice every day.
If you want to be awesome at basketball you should shoot baskets every day.
If you want to run faster, then you have to run.
If you want to get good grades in school, then you have to do your school work and/or homework every day.
And if you want to live as a Christian who knows that Jesus loves you and that loves Jesus, then you have to think about Jesus and what he says every day.
Here’s how Paul says it to the Colossians:
Colossians 3:16. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly
But what is the word of Christ?
Well it’s the Bible.
What is the Bible all about? Is it about how to be good? Is it about how to make God happy? Is it about us?
No.
It’s about Jesus Christ. The Bible is the Word of Christ. It’s all about him and how he was sent by God to save us from our sins by his death for us on the cross and his resurrection for us from the grave.
Sometimes we call the Word of Christ the gospel. The word gospel means “good news.” The good news is that even when we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The good news is that God loves us no matter what. The good news is that God will never give up on us. He never has and he never will.
And that is the message of the whole Bible – the Word of Christ.
But don’t just hear the Word of Christ, let it dwell (live) inside of you. Think about Jesus. Remember him. Remember his great love for you and his kindness toward you. Talk about God to others. Sing songs about him and to him. Remember the cross and how your sins are all forgiven. And then, as you let the Word of Christ take over your thoughts, you will learn to love and trust God more and care about others more too. You will become more like Jesus.
(BTW – If you ever hear a Bible story but no mention of Jesus Christ, raise your hand and ask your teacher, “What does this have to do with Jesus Christ?” Always make sure that you are learning the Word of Christ and not just Bible stories. Always make sure that you are learning about Jesus and not only about how to be a better person.)
Because of Jesus and his death and resurrection, his Word now lives in us reminding us of God’s love for us.
With Jesus his good news can control my whole life.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Come up with a plan as a family to hear the Word of Christ and talk about the Word of Christ regularly. Help your older children to develop a habit of reading and meditating on the gospel each day (maybe this daily blog could help wink wink).
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
I want you and your love to live inside of me. Help me to remember you and think and talk about you every day so that I always trust God’s love for me.
Amen.
