TLIC Family. Day 324. November 20: Not to deal with sin.

THINK TOGETHER

Have you ever been super excited waiting for someone to come visit?

READ TOGETHER

In the Old Testament once a year the High Priest of Israel would go into God’s tent, the Tabernacle, and offer a sacrifice for all the sins of all the people. It could be pretty scary. What if God didn’t accept the sacrifice? What if the priest did it all wrong, and didn’t follow God’s rules correctly? What if God strikes the High Priest dead right there in the tent? In fact, the High Priest would wear bells on his clothes so that the people would know that if the bells stopped ringing that their priest must be dead. Yikes.

But then when the High Priest “appeared” from out of the tent, and they heard the bells still ringing, the people could cheer, and shout, and celebrate knowing that once again they had been forgiven by God.

Jesus is our High Priest who will “appear” one day from out of the Heavenly Tent. Here’s how Hebrews describes it for us:

Hebrews 9:26-28. 26 But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

These verses should bring us the most encouragement ever! Jesus has done everything to save you and me. First he came to us (“he has appeared”) to be the sacrifice for our sins on the cross. And one day, just like the High Priest who comes walking out of the Tabernacle, he will come again (“appear a second time”) to rescue us from all the sin and evil on this earth.

And notice that Hebrews says that when Jesus comes again he won’t come to deal with sin. Why? Because Jesus has already dealt with all our sin when he died and rose again. So when Jesus appears again it will be as the High Priest whose sacrifice was accepted by God and now we can all cheer, and shout, and celebrate forever and ever.

Are you super excited for Jesus to not only come to visit but to come to stay with u forever? I am, and I hope you are too.

Because of Jesus all our sins have been dealt with forever.

With Jesus we can look forward to Jesus coming back to save us (not to punish us).

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Look at pictures together of those you can’t wait to see again in Heaven. Talk about how we will see Jesus too and that will be the greatest of happiness.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

I can’t wait for you to come back for us to live with us forever. Please come quickly.

Amen.
