TLIC FAMILY. DAY 159. JUNE 8: DEVOTED.

THINK TOGETHER

Do you go to church? Do you know the name of your church?

READ TOGETHER

The Bible tells us that on the day the Holy Spirit came down from heaven Peter the Apostle stood up and preached a sermon in the middle of the city and over 3000 people received Jesus as their Savior.

That little church in Jerusalem with only 70 people now had over 3000 people. Three thousand people with the life of Jesus inside their hearts. Listen to how the book of Acts describes what those 3000 new Christians did next:

Acts 2:41-47. 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

What kinds of things did these new Christians do? Can you list some of them? What were they devoted to?

They were devoted to teaching – they loved to hear the story of Jesus and his good news. Do you?

They were devoted to fellowship – they loved to be around other Christians. Do you?

They were devoted to the breaking of bread and the prayers – this means that they loved to worship together as one church. Do you love going to church?

The book of Acts also says that they were devoted to selling their possessions and distributing the proceeds to those in need – they loved to help each other and to share with each other. Do you love to help and share?

And it says that they were devoted to praising God – they loved to sing to God together. Do you love praising God?

Being a Christian is never supposed to be something we do alone. It is supposed to be something that we do together. Learning about Jesus together, loving like Jesus together, and worshiping Jesus together. Just like the first church did in Acts, lets live our lives with other Christians in our own church wherever we may live.

Because of Jesus we are part of his body, the church.

With Jesus we can live, and love, and share, and worship with other Christians in church.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Talk to your kids about your local church. Maybe look at the church’s website together. If you haven’t been going to church talk about how you can recommit to going and getting involved.

Make a plan as a family to either attend church or to get involved in something your church is doing – a class, or group, or event.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

I am part of your church when I trust in you to save me. Help me to love my church just like you love me.

Amen.
