TLIC FAMILY. DAY 201. JULY 20: CHRIST THE FIRSTFRUITS.

THINK TOGETHER

Do you know what happens to us when we die?

READ TOGETHER

Back in the Bible days many people were farmers. When a farmer plants a field full of grain he waits and waits to see if it will ever grow. Finally, the firstfruits pop up out of the ground. The firstfruits are the first stalks of grain that prove that eventually there will be a whole field full of grain.

Listen to how the Apostle Paul calls Jesus the firstfruits here in 1 Corinthians:

1 Corinthians 15:20-26. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.

When we trust in Jesus we are joined to him by the Holy Spirit. This means that everything that happened to Jesus will happen to us. Including the resurrection! Jesus is the firstfruits of the resurrection. Because he rose from the dead we know that we too will rise from the dead someday. Jesus is like the first stalk of grain and one day we will be the field full of grain that God will harvest and take to heaven to be with him.

This resurrection is our hope. When we trust in Jesus we WILL BE raised from the dead one day. When we trust in Jesus we will never die. Why? Because Jesus has defeated death for us. Jesus has conquered our greatest enemy when he rose from the grave. The resurrection of Jesus was the greatest even in all of history because it conquered death with unbeatable life. Jesus’ life!

So what happens when we die? Well, if you are a Christian, then your spirit will go straight to Jesus in heaven. And then one day your body will be resurrected and taken to heaven to be joined with your spirit. And you will live with Jesus physically and spiritually forever and ever and it will be awesome.

Because of Jesus we will live forever, resurrected to eternal life.

With Jesus we never have to be afraid of what happens when we die.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Watch this scene from Hercules together. Hercules is like Jesus. He entered into death in order to save Meg. Jesus entered into death to save us.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

You rose from the dead and now one day so will I. Help me to live like death has been defeated.

Amen.
