TLIC FAMILY. DAY 285 OCTOBER 12: THE IMAGE.

THINK TOGETHER

Do you remember what it means to be in the image of God?

READ TOGETHER

The book of Colossians is all about Jesus Christ and how awesome he is. Listen to how Paul describes Jesus right off the bat in chapter 1:

Colossians 1:15-17. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together

Paul calls Jesus the “image of the invisible God?” What does that mean?

First, it means that God the Father is invisible. No one has ever seen the Father. He does not have a body like we do.

Second, it means that Jesus is the person in the Trinity that has a body and can be seen. He is visible. He is the image – the seeable, touchable, huggable, high fiveable member of the Trinity.

Third, because Jesus is the image of God and we are connected to Jesus, now we can be in the image of God too.

Fourth, but don’t ever forget that Jesus is both God and the image of God. Look again at how Paul describes Jesus. He created everything. Everything is by him, for him, through him, and to him just like God the Father. Why? Because he is equal to God the Father.

Fifth, (and this is what makes Jesus so cool) he’s our God that we worship, but he’s also an image bearer like we are. So he understands us. And he models living for us. If you are a Christian (are you?) then you have been re-made into the image of Jesus who is THE image of God. Jesus is the original and we are all copies. So today let’s be like Jesus. How? By living like Jesus did remembering that, when we do, we are making God visible to the world.

Because of Jesus we are the image of God just like he is.

With Jesus we can make him visible to the world.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Do you own any action figures? Get out some action figures and play with them. And action figure is an image of something/someone else. When you play with one you are letting the “original” come to life and be visible. Talk to your kids about how we are action figures that make God visible.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

You are THE image of God. You make the invisible God visible. Help me to make you visible to everyone who sees me today.

Amen.
