THINK TOGETHER.
Do you remember how the Bible begins?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 8:22-23. 22“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old. 23Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
Genesis 1:1 says that “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Here in Proverbs 8, Lady Wisdom says that she was also there at the beginning of time – the Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work. What does this mean?
It means that God has always been wise. God doesn’t get wisdom like we do, he has always had all the wisdom he is ever going to have (which is all of it). It also means that God created everything from this great wisdom. Everything God created was made the very best way. This includes you and me too! You are the result of God’s great wisdom. What gender you are. What color you are. How tall you are. How you think, and learn, and work, and play are all the result of God’s wisdom. Do you believe that you were made by a wise God in the wisest way?
But guess what. God didn’t just create us in wisdom. Through Jesus he also re-creates us in wisdom. When we sinned God’s wise creation was damaged. But in his wisdom, God sent Jesus to earth to save us and make us into a new creation without any more sin. God did this because he loves us and wants to save us. That love IS God’s wisdom. Jesus IS God’s wisdom.
Now we can possess wisdom too, like God. Now we can know and trust that God loves us. Not just because he created us, but because he re-created us when he saved us through faith in Jesus, making us a new creation without sin so that we can go to be in Heaven with him forever.
Because of Jesus we were created in wisdom and can be re-created in wisdom.
With Jesus we can possess wisdom too.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Look in the mirror at yourselves. Ask: How did God make you? Was it wise to make you this way? What about the things about yourself that you don’t like?
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you are God’s wisdom living in me. The way you created me was wise and the way you are changing me is wise. Thank you for never giving up on me. Amen.
