THINK TOGETHER
Do you ever pray? What do you pray for?
READ TOGETHER
Jesus taught us many things about how to live our lives with God, including how to pray to God. He even gave us a model prayer to follow. Sometimes we call it the “Lord’s Prayer.” But it might be better to call it “Our Prayer to the Lord.” It’s simple. It’s radical. It goes like this:
Matthew 6:9-13. 9Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread, 12and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
Let’s break down this amazing prayer together.
Our father – We get to call God our dad, pouring out our hearts to him.
in heaven – Our dad rules the universe. He sees and knows everything.
hallowed be your name – He’s our dad, but he’s also the only one that we worship.
Your kingdom come – We want Jesus to rule on earth and in our hearts.
your will be done – Everything will happen exactly as God wants it to.
Give us this day our daily bread – Our dad takes care of us day by day.
and forgive us our debts – We are totally forgiven through Jesus.
as we also have forgiven our debtors – Now we can forgive others too.
And lead us not into temptation – With Jesus, we never have to listen to temptation.
but deliver us from evil – By dying on the cross for us, Jesus has rescued us from our evil enemy, Satan. We are bound for heaven!
And that’s good news!
Because of Jesus God is our dad that will always take care of us.
With Jesus you can always talk to God like he’s your dad.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER/PRAY TOGETHER
