TLIC Family. Day 364. December 30: All things new.

THINK TOGETHER

Have you ever made a New Year’s resolution? What resolution would you make this year?

READ TOGETHER

Did you get anything new for Christmas? Most likely you did. Probably things that were brand new in the package with dozens of little twisty ties holding them into their packaging. Or maybe a brand new coat, or favorite team jersey.

But did you get anything for Christmas that was old and broken and made new and fixed? Maybe not. But taking old broken down things and making them look and work like brand new is pretty cool isn’t it? Have you ever fixed up an old toy, or bike? Or maybe your mom and dad fix up old furniture or cars. Some people even fix up entire houses.

The Bible says that this is exactly what God will do with the whole universe – including us! Read how John explains it here in Revelation 21:

Revelation 21:1-5. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”

Back in John’s day people believed that ever few hundred years the whole world was rebooted. Kind of like re-starting a computer when it’s getting all messed up. When you re-boot it all the bad stuff (hopefully) clears away and all the programs work correctly again.

Jesus told his disciples that one day, God is going to re-boot the universe once and for all. He is going to give it a re-start. A do-over. He is going to take our old, broken, sinful world and fix it up like rand new. All the sin gone. All the tears wiped away. No more death. And all the old things made like new again. No more meanness. No more bullies. No more wars. No more pandemics. No more funerals. No more teasing. Everything sad will be made untrue.

Jesus himself is our perfect picture of what this will look like. When Jesus died his body went into the tomb. And when he arose his same body came out of the tomb. But it was way better. Way cooler. It was perfect. It was glorified by God so that his human body could now live with God forever in Heaven.

And that is exactly what God will do to everyone who loves and trusts in Jesus. We will get the same glorification of our bodies so that we can live with God forever. And all of Earth will also be made new. We will be prefect on the inside and on the outside. And we will live on a perfect Earth with God forever.

Jesus is “making all things new.” Are you new inside? Will you be new outside too one day? Are you being made new? Are you looking forward to living on a brand new Earth?

Me too.

Because of Jesus we will live with God forever in perfect bodies on a perfect Earth.

With Jesus we can live like we are new instead of living like we are still old and broken.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Big: Take something old and broken in your house and try to fix it up. Talk about how this is what Jesus has done with us. He’s taken us from broken to fixed, from old to new.

Small: Look at some of your brand new gifts together. Talk about how we are all shiny and new on the inside with Jesus.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

You are making all things new! Thank you for making me new on the inside and I look forward to being new on the outside too one day.

Amen.
