THINK TOGETHER
Have you ever gotten something wonderful even though you didn’t deserve it?
READ TOGETHER
Yesterday we talked about how we have every spiritual blessing that Jesus has. All that is his is ours because we are connected to him. But why? Why is God so good to us?
Paul says it’s because of God’s glorious grace. Listen to how he says it here in Ephesians 1:
Ephesians 1:3-6. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places… 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed [graced] us in the Beloved.
For Christians grace is everything. But what is grace? What does the word grace mean? It means getting something wonderful that you don’t deserve. For us that wonderful thing is Jesus. Without God’s glorious grace we wouldn’t have Jesus or his life inside of us. We wouldn’t be loved like he is. We wouldn’t have a home in Heaven waiting for us. We wouldn’t be forgiven and cleansed of all our sin. We wouldn’t be art of God’s family. All of these blessings are because of God’s glorious grace. His amazing grace.
But what makes grace so amazing? So glorious?
Grace is glorious (special) because it’s not normal. It’s not normal for us to love others even when they are bad and mean to us. It’s not normal to give everything to someone who didn’t earn it. It wouldn’t be normal for your teacher to give you an A+ when you deserve an F-. It wouldn’t be normal for your parents to give you ice cream when you deserve a time out. It wouldn’t be normal for the referee to award you a goal when you missed the shot.
But that’s what God does for us. He gives us what we don’t deserve. And that’s not normal. It’s glorious! Glorious grace!
Because of Jesus we have God’s glorious grace even though we don’t deserve it.
With Jesus we can live to the praise of God’s grace, abnormally giving to others who don’t deserve it.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Here’s a fun music video of This Is Amazing Grace.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
I don’t deserve your love and your grace, but you share everything with me anyway. That’s not normal, that’s glorious! Thank you.
Amen.
