TLIC FAMILY. DAY 34. FEBRUARY 3: SHOW YOUR GLORY.

THINK TOGETHER

What is the most important thing you own? Why is it important to you?

READ TOGETHER

The word GLORY is one of the most important words in the Bible. The word can mean heavy, but also important or significant. The Bible says that everything has some amount of glory. Everything God created is special, and good, and important. A bug. A horse. The stars. It all has glory. And the Bible says that of all the things God made, we are the most glorious. But it also says that because of sin, we are always wanting more and more glory. We chase after glory so we feel better inside.

In Exodus, as Moses was on top of Mount Sinai talking to God, the people below did something very sinful. They made a golden idol that looked like a cow. Then they worshiped that fake cow. They gave that fake golden cow the glory that only God deserves. And they foolishly thought that gold cow would give them glory too, that it would make them feel important. Needless to say, God was very angry. Why? Because they replaced him with something else. Do you ever do that? Do you ever make something more important than God? I do too.

Moses had to pray to God and ask him to forgive the people for their sins. And then he asked God for something else. Something amazing. Listen to this prayer that Moses prayed on the mountain:

Exodus 33:18-19. 18 Moses said, “[Lord] Please show me your glory.” 19 And [the Lord] said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.

Moses asked to see God’s glory, and God said yes! God would shine bright in front of Moses. But did you notice that God called his glory things like goodness, and grace, and mercy. God’s glory is his love. And we can see God’s glory every time we look at Jesus on the cross. That is where we see God’s goodness, mercy, and grace. And it is his love for us that makes us glorious, important, and special.

Because of Jesus I know I can trust God more than anything or anyone else.

With Jesus I can show others the glory (the goodness and grace) of God.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Point out heavy things in your house. Are the heavy things also the important things? Talk about the heavy cross and how it showed God’s glorious love.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus, you are the best thing in the world. Help me to never put anything above you in my heart. Amen.
