Do you know what a demon is? What do you know about them?

The Bible tells us that we have an enemy, Satan, that hates us very much. Along with Satan there are demons that also hate us. Satan and the demons are angels that hate God and they hate everyone who loves God. The Bible also tells how a demon would get inside of a person and make their life miserable. So Jesus, being full of love and compassion, would go around making demons leave from inside of people. This was called “casting out demons.”

One time when Jesus was casting out demons he stopped and taught us all a very important lesson. It’s not enough for the demon to be removed from a person’s life, something more powerful has to take its place. Here’s how Jesus explains it:

Luke 11:24-26. 24“When the unclean spirit [the demon] has gone out of a person…it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ 25And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. 26Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first.”

Jesus is saying that if you kick a strong bad guy out of your house, you have to invite a stronger good guy to move in to make sure the bad guy doesn’t come back.

Luke 11:22. when one stronger…overcomes him [the bad guy], he takes away his armor in which he trusted…

Jesus is our even stronger good guy. He lives in our hearts. He keeps Satan and all his bad guys away from us. What does that mean for us today? What is the lesson we should learn? We need to learn to constantly look to Jesus as the proof of God’s kindness and protection in our life. That way we won’t be tricked by Satan into thinking that God is bad instead of good.

Does Jesus live in your heart? Keep trusting him. He is the strongest of all.

Because of Jesus we can never be harmed by Satan and his demon bad guys.

With Jesus we can always trust his love for us and protection over us.

Jesus, you are the strongest of all and you live in my heart. Keep Satan and his lies away from my heart. Amen.
